Current notes from his current family on this majestic baby boy!
Kodiak is honestly a dream dog. He is three years old, neutered, microchipped, kennel trained, house trained, and I specifically trained him from a puppy to never put his mouth on anyone. He is dog friendly and child friendly but has never met a cat so I can’t comment on that. He needs a fenced in yard or to be on a lead because (as a mix of two guard breeds) he is extremely aware of his surroundings and, as a friendly dog, he is eager to meet new people and other dogs. We got him a week before I found out I was pregnant with my first so he is wonderful with all ages and we have company over often so we know he is kind to strangers. His favorite game is tug and he doesn’t really understand fetch but he thinks it’s fun to watch you throw a ball. We have never witnessed agression or resource guarding from him and this goes for toys as well. He’s perfectly happy to watch other dogs get to a toy before him. He is simply being rehomed due to our life circumstances. We think it would be irresponsible to pretend like we can continue to be the best pet owners for him with two under two and two demanding work schedules. He is up to date on all vaccines. He has no known health conditions. For training, he is more praise driven than treat driven but he will always be happy to get a treat. He can be a food thief so if he goes to a home that doesn’t want to kennel him while cooking and eating, they will have to train that out of him (but he has been trained to stay out of the kitchen so there’s hope!) He’s a big heavy cuddle monster as well (total Velcro dog) so it would take some work to keep him off the furniture because he’s used to being allowed on the couch. We have a rehome fee that I set at $100 but that’s only because I read that it’s dangerous to rehome as “free to a good home”. Everything we have for him will be passed on to his new home. It would be ideal if we could be in touch with his new family to maybe send him birthday presents or to visit with him if they’re okay with that, but we mainly just want to know that he’s happy and healthy in his new home.
